The 5 Components of a Welcome Email That Connect With Readers, Jumpstart Engagement, and Establish Credibility for LGBTQ+ Coaches

You’re ahead of many other speakers who are relying on social media, referrals, and speaker agencies (all things that you do not own). But are you using your email list to nurture your audience and generate business? Or is it a list sitting around and collecting dust?

Connect with your subscriber list from the moment they sign up by creating an engaging Welcome Email.

Subject Line

The Subject Line can be the deciding factor if your reader opens your email or deletes it.

For a Welcome Email, keep it simple. Here’s an example:

“Welcome to Thriving as a Queer Professional: A Newsletter with Career Coach Sebastian Dziuk”

The subscription form included the name of the publication: Thriving as a Queer Professional”. It also included the subhead: “A Newsletter with Career Coach Sebastian Dziuk”. So the reader knew to expect this in their inbox.

Additionally, be sure that the sender includes your name, not just the name of your business. For the above newsletter, it could be: “Sebastian Dziuk” or “Sebastian from Thriving as a Queer Professional”.

Welcome Your Reader

Next, include the initial welcome in the body of your email.

Keep it simple: “Thanks for joining the Queer Professional community!”

Don’t write a novel here.

Introduce Yourself

Your introduction should establish credibility and explain why you created this newsletter.

Here’s the example from Thriving as a Queer Professional:

“I started this newsletter because I realized that:

  1. It’s difficult to find career coaching that focuses on the unique opportunities and challenges that LGBTQ+ people face, and

  2. Folks are looking for career coaching that isn’t just about the job hunt, but the growth throughout their career.

I’m Sebastian Dziuk (he/him/his). I’m a Queer and Trans man who coaches LGBTQ+ people in their career journey.

My career started in the U.S. Army when I was 17 years old. After 10 years of service, I moved onto a new corporate job in learning and development and now in project management (yup, I also have a day job).

I’ve been coaching since 2021 with my own business, Coach Bastian LLC. I’m also a keynote speaker, workshop facilitator, and author.

My proudest achievement that is going to be hard to top though is being a Seahorse Papa to an amazing kid.”

Let Your Reader Know What to Expect

Again, simplicity is great here.

Let them know what they’ll be reading about in your newsletter in a sentence or two.

Example: “In this newsletter, you’ll receive weekly lessons on how to stand out in your career, navigate your job search, and build confidence so that you can thrive in your life and career.”

Invite Your Reader to Connect

Lastly, close your Welcome Email with an invitation to connect with you.

Readers can reply to your email and start a conversation. Invite them to do just that! Here is your example:

“I’d love to learn more about you as well, you can reply to this email with things like:

  • Why did you subscribe to this newsletter?

  • What goals are you working on right now?

  • What fills you with joy?

  • And anything else that you’d like to share.

No pressure, you can just sit back and read these emails as they come into your inbox too.
